What is IOTA?

IOTA's tangle is an open-source distributed ledger technology ( similar to blockchain ) built for the Internet of Things. It enables data and value transfers between the "things".

For example, if an electric car is charged in a charging station. The car directly pays the station with IOTA tokens without the need for human intervention.
